The Soldier of the Queen Series

A young man from Lancashire hears tales of great derring do from a survivor of the Charge of the Light Brigade and the lure of the army takes him from a dismal factory to the war against the Zulus in Africa. The series chronicles the lives of the soldiers in Africa as they fight first in Zululand, then the Sudan and Egypt and finally the deserts of Arabia.
