The war in southern France is almost over and it is a matter of when and not if. While Napoleon Bonaparte prevaricates to get the best deal he can British and French soldiers are dying in battle. When the news of peace comes it is too late for many soldiers and Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Matthews resigns his commission to return to England and his family. He sees his son for the first time and he and his new partner, Alan Sharp, leave England to begin a new life in Sicily.
It is pure coincidence that crosses the paths, once more, of Napoleon Bonaparte, returning to France and Robbie and Alan returning on business to England. It is the start of the end of a journey Robbie began when he joined the Chasseurs and, after the bloodbath that was the Battle of Waterloo, ends at Rochefort on the French coast.
Waterloo is the final chapter in the story of the Napoleonic Horseman!
I first wrote this novel in 2015 to commemorate the bicentennial. In hindsight this was a mistake as my protagonists, at that time, still had 8 years of war ahead of them and while the story could be written the characters would have changed. As my readers know my characters are real and organic. They learn from their experiences. Consequently I quickly realized that the writing of the book prematurely was a mistake and I withdrew it.
I have now rewritten it. The plot line is largely the same and those who have the earlier version will no have any surprises. However there are added sections, especially concerning the end of the war in southern France and the family lives of Alan and Robbie.
The book was published on June 18th 2021- the anniversary of the battle.
I published two versions of this book. One has an exclamation mark. The reason was that those who had bought the original version were unable to buy the new one. Both books are identical save for the exclamation mark!
