This is the last book in the series and as there was so much to pack into it, the book is 25% longer than most of my books. It can be read as s stand alone book; you need not have read the first two to get into the story.
Rodrigo, El Campeador, El Cid call him what you will is a fascinating character. he never lost a battle! I can think of no other leader who was as successful as he was. It is interesting to speculate how he might have fared in England or Sicily where the Normans were carving out Empires. he was a true Castilian and sought just to unite Spain but he was human and when he was rejected by King Alfonso he decided to become a warlord. As Warlord of Valencia he almost succeeded in his dream.
